Lima Expresa continues to innovate and installs the first automatic toll booths in Peru
- The use of automatic toll booths reduces the transaction time from 15 to 5 seconds, and provides a more positive experience for vehicle drivers.
- The automatic toll booths (initially only for use by light vehicles) are available 24 hours a day at the Estadio Toll Plaza, located on the Yellow Line express road, in the direction of Lima.
- Eight new automatic toll booths will be available from July in other toll plazas.
Lima Expresa, a subsidiary of VINCI Highways and in charge of operating the Bypass Road and the Línea Amarilla expressway, continues to innovate and launches the first automatic toll booths in Peru located at the Estadio toll plaza, on the Línea Amarilla expressway towards Lima, where drivers will be able to pay autonomously. No cash, no contact with a collection agent and save 10 seconds on every transaction.
How does this automated payment method work?
Upon arriving at the toll plaza, the driver will see signage distinguishing the available automatic toll booths. Once at the booth, the driver who has a credit or debit card with contactless technology, will bring his card close to the POS reader, make the payment and a ticket will be issued. It is not necessary for the customer to sign or enter their password at any time.
Automatic toll booths operate 24 hours a day and only become manual in the event of a high demand at the toll plaza. If the customer needs assistance, they can communicate with a Lima Expresa supervisor through an intercom located in the same booth and answer any questions that may arise. This service is only available for light vehicles and only delivers sales receipts.
The automation of payment at toll booths is in accordance with VINCI Highways' vision to innovate to improve the experience of customers transiting through its global network. Lima Expresa is VINCI Highways' innovation hub in Latin America and, as such, is advancing in the automation process from various areas; in 2023, the automatic detection of incidents and accidents through artificial intelligence was implemented and automatic charging modules for electronic tolls were also installed along its roads.
More automatic booths will be available this month.
Starting this month, Lima Expresa will make available eight more toll booths with this automatic payment method at the Huánuco toll plazas located on the Yellow Line express road, Santa Anita, El Pino and Monterrico toll plaza, located on the Vía de Evitamiento.
